Mini Lone Star - Tutorial/ Anleitung

Wie versprochen ist jetzt hier die Anleitung für den Mini Lone Star mit Dreiecken im Hintergrund. Wenn ihr euch mehr zutraut, dann probiert doch diese tolle Anleitung von Leila, die mit Y-Nähten arbeitet.

Just as promised, here is the tutorial for a Mini Lone Star with triangles in the background. If you have advanced sewing skills or simply feel confident enough for a challenge, try this great tutorial by Leila that uses Y-seams.

Excuse the quality of the pictures, I had to take the photos in the evening.

Zunächst ein paar Sätze zur Stoffauswahl. Ich habe mit vielen Stoffresten gearbeitet. Diese müssen mindestens 23" lang sein, oder man muss genug für zwei ca. 14-15" lange Streifen haben. Es wirkt schöner, wenn man für den mittleren Ring Stoffe derselben Farbe verwendet. Natürlich kann man auch zweimal denselben Stoff nehmen. Für die Spitzen sollte man einen Stoff wählen, der schön mit dem Hintergrund kontrastiert. Da ich einen weißen Hintergrund verwende, habe ich dunklere Stoffe für die Spitzen benutzt.

As a start a few sentences on the choice of fabric. I used  a lot of different scraps for this project. They have to be at least 23" long or you have to have enough to make two about 14-15" strips. It looks best if you choose fabrics of the same colour for the middle ring. However, you can also use the same fabric twice. For the points of the stars you might consider a fabric that has a nice contrast to your background fabric. I chose a white background and darker fabrics for the points.

Stoffzuschnitt/ Cutting:

     Hintergrundstoff:          

          2 Quadrate  6,25" x 6,25", durch beide Diagonalen schneiden (man erhält 8 Dreiecke)

          4 Quadrate 4" x 4", durch eine Diagonale schneiden (man erhält 8 Dreiecke)

     Background fabric:

          2 squares 6.25" x 6.25", cut through both diagonals (you get 8 triangles)

          4 squares 4" x 4", cut through one diagonal (you get 8 triangles)

     Für den Stern:

          4 Streifen 1,75" x 23", lege sie aus wie auf dem Bild: Spitze, 2mal mittlerer Ring, Mitte

     For the star:

          4 Strips 1.75" x 23", lay them out as in the picture above: point, middle ring (twice) , centre

Nun kann's mit dem Nähen losgehen:  Let's start with the sewing:

Nähe den äußeren und den inneren Stoff jeweils mit einem mittleren Stoff mit einer 0,25"-Naht zusammen. Bügle die Nähte auf.

Sew both the outer and the inner fabric to one of the middle fabrics using a 0.25" seam. Press the seams open.

Schneide die oberen Stoffe in einem 45° Winkel. Achte dabei auf die Ausrichtung des Lineals und der Stoffe (der Stoff für die Spitzen liegt immer noch oben).

Cut the top fabrics with a 45° angle. Pay attention to the alignment of the ruler and the fabrics (the fabric for the points is still on top).

Schneide acht 1,75" breite Streifen. Kontrolliere immer wieder den Winkel.

Cut eight 1.75" wide strips. Check the angle regurlarly.

Nimm dir jetzt die inneren Stoffe vor. Achte auch hier wieder auf die Ausrichtung und kontrolliere mit einem Stück der äußeren Stoffe.

Now take the inner fabrics. Again, pay attention to the alignment and check with one pice of the outer fabrics.

Nun kannst du den Stern auslegen und deine Komposition bewundern!

You can lay out the star now and admire you composition!

Jetzt kommt der schwierigste Teil: Die Rauten, die den Stern bilden, müssen zusammen genäht werden. Lege die Stoffe aus wie auf den Fotos. Mit einem Lineal kannst du überprüfen, ob sich die Stoffe bei 0,25" überkreuzen und sich die Nähte treffen. Bügle auch hier wieder die Nähte auf.

Bevor es weiter geht, solltest du die Stoffe wieder zum Stern auslegen, damit du bei den nächsten Schritten nicht durcheinander kommst.

Now up to the most tricky part: The diamonds, that make the star, have to be sewn together. Place the fabrics as in the photos above. Use a ruler to check if the fabrics cross at 0.25" and the seams match. Press the seams open again.

Before moving on you should lay out your star again to avoid confusion in the following steps.

Nimm dir eine Raute und eines der größeren Dreiecke. Lege sie übereinander, wie abgebildet. Achte darauf, dass eine kleine Spitze (im Foto rechts unten) hinaus guckt. Nähe die Stücke mit einer 0,25" Naht zusammen. Bügle so, dass die Nahtzugabe unter dem Stern ist. Denke daran, dass du vier Stücke in dieser Richtung und vier Stücke in der anderen Richtung annähst. Lege deshalb die fertigen Stücke immer wieder in den Stern zurück.

Take a diamond and one of the larger triangles. Place them on top of each other as shown above. Take care that a little point sticks out (see the lower right corner of the photo). Sew the pieces together using a 0.25" seam. Iron to one side so that the seam allowance is under the star. Remember that you have to make four pieces in this direction and four pieces in the other direction. It's simpler to remember if you place the finished pieces back into your star.

Nähe an die andere äußere Seite der Raute ein kleineres Dreieck, was mittig angelegt wird. Bügle auch hier wieder in Richtung des Sterns.

Sew one of the smaller triangles to the other outer side of the diamond, placing it centered. Press in direction of the star again.

Wenn du alle Rauten fertig hast, lege den Stern wieder aus und begradige die inneren Seiten.

When you have finished all of your diamonds, lay out the star again and straighten the inner sides.

Nähe jetzt jeweils zwei Elemente zu einem Quadrat zusammen. Es sieht am besten aus, wenn sich die Nähte vom Übergang vom Stern zum Hintergrund genau treffen. Bei dem Rest kann man schummeln. Bügel diese Nähte auf.
In dem Foto sieht man noch die "Öhrchen" in der Mitte. Die sollte man abschneiden, damit sich der Stoff nicht in den Weg kommt.

Sew two of the elements together to make a square. It looks best if the seams match where the star joins the background. You can cheat with the rest. Press these seams open.
You can see little "ears" in the centres in the photo. You should cut them off to avoid fabric bulk.

 Fast fertig! Nähe nun die Quadrate zusammen und bügel die Nähte auf.

Nearly finished! Sew the squares together and press the seams open.

Jetzt musst du nur noch den Block auf 12,5" x 12,5" zuschneiden.

Now you simply have to square the block up to 12.5" x 12.5".
